I have to tell you how grateful I am to a certain reader of my blog... Because after
touch with a friend of hers who has also rescued/raised a baby squirrel. Jennifer's
friend Christina was a huge help and so very kind to offer her advice. As soon as I
told Christina I planned to buy an animal formula recommended by my local pet
store to feed to my squirrel, she let me know that it would likely cause diarrhea
and could very well kill him in no time flat. Well, that wasn't the plan at all! So...
I did just as Christina recommended and fed my squirrel everything
on her squirrel's menu. Sweet potato baby food, full-fat vanilla yogurt,
minus the cookie crunchers, apple and avocado. And you know what?
Squirrley loved it all!
Especially the yogurt and...
The avocado!
Christina also suggested I provide a small plush toy for cuddling since
squirrels are used to being huddled together in the nest. I thought about
buying a little bear or something but I work for Hanes and I know there
is nothing softer than our Hanes socks! So I tied a pair of toddler socks
together to form a little pooch and guess who is snuggled up with it now!

Blogger-friends are the best. Thank you Jennifer and thank you Christina!
That is adorable!...and amazing!
ReplyDeleteOh I am so glad to hear that he is still doing well. And his diet looks pretty yummy to me! Keep the adorable posts coming. I can't wait to hear more about how he is doing!
ReplyDeleteI hope he got a bath after that meal, LOL!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I so love squirrels! And the babies are so trusting. My dad used to tame them in our backyard until he discovered making them toooo tame in the big outdoors equaled a very short life for the squirrel. A few years later, he saved a baby that was injured -- that lived for many years under Dad's care. We used to give him something to chew on for his teeth. Can't wait for more updates!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you found out what to feed him. You may be stuck with him for awhile since he's going to be so tame! He couldn't have found a better home:)
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness! I'm glad I could help your baby! Christina has a heart of gold! She is very crafty and talented! I'm so glad she could help you!
ReplyDeleteCan't believe how quickly he is eating up that yogurt and baby food. Poor little fellow and I know he looks bigger in the photos and the video than he really is. He's lucky that it was you that found him.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely the sweetest thing! You are amazing and thank you for sharing these photos....One lucky little baby to find his way to you for protection....awww....
